Sustainable marketing is truly responsible marketing because it incorporates mindfulness of what our actions in the present are and how those actions will affect our future.
That means that if your company is destroying our planet by making a product that was once a great seller, don’t be surprised if sales start falling. Sustainable marketing efforts inform the already savvy consumer, so if your company is already doing things for the future of our planet and future generations, informing takes on a high level.
Here are some examples of what we are talking about. Here is a short list of a few companies and what they are doing for our planet. These companies include:
IKEA – They have been working for years on using recycled materials on all their furniture. Their new initiative is that by 2030, all plastic used on their products will be made from recycled or renewable materials. An A+ on their use of sustainable marketing!
Starbucks – This pricey habit for many of their customers continues to impress. Yes, when trying to save money, there’s a saying, “Cut out your latte.” Yet Starbucks has never suffered from customer cutbacks. Why? Because they do things right on so many different levels. They have been certified by LEED® since 2005.
LEED® stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. This is a very prestigious certification and has very high standards to achieve. With Starbucks they have already eliminated straws, and as part of their green initiative, they plan to reduce 30% waste, are involved in heavy-duty recycling, support farmers, and are very involved in green buildings and educate their target audience in sustainability. A++ on their use of sustainable marketing!
Here are a few honorable mentions that we were impressed with:
On a side note, EDK staff members are very involved with sustainable causes, such as volunteer work with animal rescue, mental health causes, and we always support small businesses.
